Daniel takes place at an important moment in Israel’s history: the Exile. God’s people find themselves far from their homeland in a hostile environment. The Exile is a motif that is carried on in the New Testament to discuss the current reality of the church. The same pressures and questions faced by these Jews are faced by us, too. Yet, these pressures can be for our good—creating a faith and pattern of life that shine like lights into the darkest of places.
